This project plans to propose, develop and evaluate solutions in terms of architecture, functionality and management mechanisms for future mobile communication networks based on LTE-A (post Release 10) so that they respond in the best way possible to the challenges arising in the field of commercial services, as well as the provision of professional mobile radio broadband. At the same time, the functionalities and solutions considered must provide high efficiency in both CAPEX (Capital Expenditure) and OPEX (Operational Expenditure), in order to make viable techno-economic models that facilitate the development of this new ecosystem.

The solution framework aiming this project aims, therefore, to identify, develop and exploit synergies and operating models win-win between business environment and new sectors, thus realizing a paradigm shift in the understanding of mobile communications future. The project will focus on two use cases providing commercial "mobile ultra-broadband" services with ultra-dense cell deployment and provision of services PPDR (Public Protection and Disaster Relief) for LTE / LTE-A networks. On the two use cases considered, a set of enabling technologies, capabilities and partners such as spectrum sharing (enabling bands and spectrum sharing schemes such as secondary access to TV bands or spectrum sharing functionalities are identified with guarantees protection modeled Licensed Shared Access currently in development), deployment methodologies (criteria massive deployment of cells) and optimization strategies (to enable autonomous operation, configuration and optimization of multiple parameters of the cellular network), communications between devices (both from the perspective of an essential requirement for PPDR as in the commercial context as a strategy of "offloading" local traffic and introduction of new and improved local services) and prioritization (as a mechanism for QoS differentiation in providing commercial services as well as better support PPDR communications users under congested).

The development project is structured around four pillars: conceptual studies, simulations, such as actual measurements key to enabling a step further in the direction of realism contribute to the solutions developed and further evidence of its practical-operation and demonstration of concepts and algorithms in the laboratory, which should allow the validation of the proposed solutions in a close environment with reality, contemplating practical implementation issues and more evident to an outside observer the benefits and advantages of the developed techniques.

The project results aim to contribute primarily to the challenge, "Economy and Digital Society" and secondarily to the challenge "Safety, security and defense." The research team defined as a primary objective of the project to ensure dissemination, impact and transfer of results.
