Ramon Agustí received the Engineer of Telecommunications degree from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain, in 1973, and the Ph.D. degree from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Spain, 1978. In 1973 he joined the Escola Tècnica Superior d'Enginyers de Telecomunicació de Barcelona, Spain, where he became Full Professor in 1987. After graduation he was working in the Polithecnic of Turin (Italy) during 1976-77 and one month per year in the CNET labs (Lannion, France) during the years 1980 to 1984. For the last fifteen years he has been mainly concerned with the performance analysis, development of planning tools and equipment for mobile communication systems and he has published about a hundred papers in that areas.

He participated in the European program COST 231 and in the COST 259 as Spanish representative delegate. He has also participated in the RACE and ACTS European research programs (ATDMA, MICC, and RAINBOW projects) in the IST (WINE GLASS, ARROWS) as well as in many private and public funded projects. Dr. Agusti is currently participating in EVEREST and E2R IST projects and is the Spanish responsible of the Network of Excellence NEWCOM. He has also been advisor of Spanish and Catalonian Governmental Agencies (DGTel, CICYT, ANEP and CIRIT) on issues concerning radio and mobile communications. He received the Catalonia Engineer of the year prize in 1998 and the Narcis Monturiol Medal issued by the Government of Catalonia in 2002 for his research contributions to the mobile communications field. He is part of the editorial board of several Scientific International Journals (Wireless Personal Communications and Wireless Communication and Mobile Computing). At present his research interest lies in the area of wireless communications with special emphasis on Packet Radio Networks, Wireless Access Protocols, Radio Resources Management and QoS.
