Anna Umbert received the Engineer of Telecommunications degree from the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria de Telecomunicació de Barcelona (ETSETB) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Spain, in 1998. In 2004 she obtained the Ph.D. degree at the Department of Signal Theory and Communications of the UPC. Her doctoral thesis contributed to the design of the network architecture for the integration of packet services in the UMTS system, as it is known the 3G mobile communications system in Europe. Her Final Career Project was about a radio channel emulator based on Hidden Markov Models.


From January 1999 until August 2001 she had a grant of the "Comissionat per a Universitats i Recerca" from the "Generalitat de Catalunya". In 2001 she joined the Mobile Communications Research Group (GRCM) belonging to the Department of Signal Theory and Communications from UPC as Assistant Professor, which is her current status.


Since 1997 she has been participating in several projects founded by both public and private organizations. In particular, she participated in the European projects: RAINBOW, WINEGLAS, CAUTION++, ARROWS, EVEREST and AROMA; and in the Networks of Excellence NEWCOM and NEWCOM++. Her research interest is focused on packet radio techniques, radio resource, QoS and mobility management in the context of heterogeneous mobile communications systems and dynamic spectrum access in the context of cognitive radio networks. She also participated in the organisation of IEEE VTC in Spring 2009 and IEEE PIMRC 2004 international conferences.


From September 2001 she has been teaching about transmitters and receivers at UPC (ETSETB- Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria de Telecomunicació de Barcelona) and she has been coordinator of the laboratory at the Master of Mobile Communications.
